Class 3: Starting the Rules

Today we worked on starting to devlop the formal rules for our game as well as play testing our game. For the rules we looked the rules of similar games like Clue Suspect, to see how best to model our game's rules. We got some good ideas for formatting our rules and even used some similar terms in order to write the rules to make them more interesting and easier to read. We discussed ways to present our final rules and decided that we would use panels with images and color to make them look visually interesting. We decided that the suitable age frame for our game would be 8+ since it is a game meant for adults. Additionally we discussed a tagline for our game that would serve as a catchphrase that would make people want to play the game.
We spent some time play testing our game today which provided to be somewhat challenging since the game is meant for 6 or 8 players and there is only 4 of us. However it was still incredibly useful as it gave us all a better idea of what the game was meant to be and how it was meant to be played.  It also gave us ideas on how to make the game more feasible as we decided to get rid of repeating cards.

Class 2: Making up storylines

Today we worked on coming up various story lines for our game. We tried to incorporate different types of people, places, weapons, colors and attires. We also came up with possible storylines that can go along with these attributes. We discussed the possibility of having luck cards which would let players talk to players on their team as in the original game the players can only talk to people on the opposing team and communicate with people on their own team by giving clues. We have yet to finalize the rules and write them up.  We also discussed the look of our game and decided the we wanted a single logo on the front of the cards while the back would describe the attribute and having an image to identify it.  We still have to finalize the way the game is played and test play the game to ensure that it is not too difficult.

First meeting

Today we worked on developing our game using the original idea put forth by Monisha. We discussed possible variations we could make to the original idea, brainstorming ways to modify the game to make it more original and fresh. Since the game mostly consists of the cards and the rules we talked about how we would go about developing these 2 things. We also spent time making sure all the members of our group understood what the game was and how it was meant to be played.
In the next class we will focus on discussing the specific rules of the game, maybe try playing it the way it is originally set out and see where we can go from there. Another component we have yet to discuss is the story part of the game. We need to essentially come up with 8 different stories and present them in an interesting manner such that everyone can remember the stories enough to make the sets.
